Mise en scene - Prop Rejects

These two photos we decided as a group not to use as they had faults such as the background of the one of Tom Hanks had 'AFI', and the photo of the soldiers are wearing an american uniform and Walter Murphy is english.

Filming Log One

Today my group went to our filming location for roughly two hours to begin our filming. We all worked together coming up with ideas and such, and working together well.
We did test shots as well as filming that we would use for the title sequence.
We began by filming a 360 pan shot of the living area which we will use to display credits on various wall spaces in the shot. The shot has a lot of character with the vintage decoration and the old art pieces with the old clock, which really emphasises that the house belongs to an elderly person. When I first tried this shot I had the camera on a tripod and turned it all the way round stopping whenever the credits would be due to appear. However it seemed jolty and the lighting was too bright and kept creating shadows of me and the tripod on the wall I was filming. As we were using natural light Laine closed the curtains and placed objects at either end holding them back slightly to allow enough light so the shot wasn't too dark but not too much to create shadow. This particular shot took quite a few re-shoots. When we thought we had it right we watched back the footage and realised an armchair was spoiling part of the shot so I moved it aside to clear the space for a re-shoot, which came together after the furniture rearrangement.
The second shot we successfully filmed was a shot from the bottom of the stairs looking up which was filmed using the camera on a tripod.
The third shot that was successfully filmed was one beginning at the top of the stairs using a steadicam which then came down the stairs revealing french paintings on the wall on the way down. The lighting was a little difficult to get right but was soon sorted.

Mise en scene - Tom Hanks Year Book Photo

I decided to put the yearbook photo of tom Hanks into a little picture frame that I collected as it would be specific memory that he might of once kept on a mantel piece or a window ledge when he lived with his parents which now has pride of place in his memory box.

Mise en scene - Vintage Items Collected

This are just some old vintage items that I collected for the memory box which would hold sentimental value. The old camera would have been something he used to capture memories in his past, the cassettes could have his favourite music on or something he played to his children when they were young, the old 45 could have had a song which was played at his wedding,  the pocket watch could have been a gift from his wife and the old money could have been what he used to use when he was younger.

Mise en scene - Collected Items

One part of the narrative is that Walter Murphy's wife is dead so I thought one of the things he might keep in the memory box other than photographs to remember her by would be her wedding or engagement ring that she would have worn for the whole of there married life. So to give it the old and vintage look I decided to use my great great grandmothers engagement ring.

Mise en scene - Collected Items

Keeping in mind that our character Walter Murphy had his own children as well as grandchildren it makes sense that he might have kept some of his old toys or games to show them when they were children.
Baring this in mind I decided to collect to vintage toys and games.
The two wooden toys are from when my grandparents were children and as they are roughly the same age as our character Walter Murphy I figured that Walter Murphy would have had them as a child too.
The Marbles could have been Walter Murphy's or his children's game and the Marbles game is timeless and has been played for many years. So I collected the older style ones along with an old dice.

Mise en scene - Passport

For the memory box I decided I wanted there to be a passport as this could hold lots of memories of travelling to different places in the world. This particular one that I owned belonged to my great great uncle so it was of a similar if not same time that our character Walter Murphy would have had one. Obviously the name on the passport was wrong so I found paper of that same dated yellowy tone and then cut it to shape and wrote
'MR . W . MURPHY'
in the same style as was written the original name.

Mise en scene - Photo Album

To create a photo album for the memory box I got together some old photos from my nans old photo albums so that they were from the same kind of era and had the right dated look. I then put these together with the pictures of edited pictures of Tom Hanks into a photo album. These pictures filled one side so on the other I just put one black and white picture that could be seen and then filled the rest with random pictures to make it look full.
